John, This is a bit of a self-promotion, but you can try my packages at http://python.org/pyvault to see if it helps with the transition. Upgrading to PyVault will allow your system to run multiple versions of Python without interference. There is a PyVault user support list where you can ask questions or give feedback. You pick up a couple of dependencies when using PyVault; read the disclaimer on the website before proceeding. Most likely, it will be safe for you to use. -- -jeff
