I have answered my own question. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=102272 details a problem with Fedora Core 1, and proxies that affects yum, apt-get, up2date and others. >From my experience, it appears to affect Mozilla and FTP also. That is, anything that needs to use an FTP proxy is failing. The work around for yum is to set the environmental variable http_proxy and only point yum to HTTP servers for updates until this problem is resolved. Andy
