(Even if it is a memory hog!) I've noticed yum's memory usage (time) varies considerably depending upon number of dependency loops it needs to go thrugh (bad rpm dependencies - where yum eventually gives up - makes it worse) Also - it probably depends upon the number of packages listed in the repositories as well. For eg: I've clocked the following 1. 212M: attempting fc1->rawhide upgrade (which fails): 2. 99M: FC1 + fdr + dag - upgrade (with extra work to resolve dependencies) 3. 37M: FC1 + fdr - updates (which includes simple updates): PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME CPU COMMAND 3893 root 25 0 212M 212M 5948 R 99.8 21.1 1:13 0 yum 3913 root 25 0 99.6M 99M 5964 R 98.0 9.8 0:33 0 yum 3912 root 17 0 38784 37M 4484 R 99.8 3.7 0:01 0 yum Satish
