Unfortunately our installation (by Red Hat) was done before that came out and the upgrade has never been done. I had just about got there. I figured out I needed popt as well as rpm. popt upgrade fails as rpm 4.0.3 depends on the old one. rpm upgrade fails for lack of new popt plus a lot of other things depend on the old rpm. Is it O.K. to use force and then upgrade the things which depend on rpm? Thanks John P.S. This is what is called a legacy system. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr John P.
