Actually...this is sort of a curiosity for me...a problem I'd like to see go away. In my maintenance of a Red Hat based distribution I basically have to integrate updates into the tree so that you can install a fully updated system. One reason is that it doesn't take long to get more errata than I have space in /var/cache. (/var/cache is its own, small partition for OpenAFS evilness.) Anyway, I guess the problem comes down to splitting the transaction set into smaller sets...which appears to be really, really hard.
