On Debian/Ubuntu system, the script is installed as /usr/lib/libvirt/libvirt-guests.sh and you can definitely try debugging it if you're familiar with shell scripting. I installed both libvirt-bin and qemu-kvm in an Ubuntu 16.04 guest in an attempt to reproduce the issue you're having but I was unsuccessful, so I'm afraid I can't really help you much further. It would probably be a good idea to open a downstream bug report with your vendor, as they might have an easier time reproducing the issue.
