You don't really want to use PTYs to connect 2 VMs together.
Instead try using one of the TCP or UDP connection methods

  http://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementsCharTCP

eg, configure one VM with

    <serial type="tcp">
      <source mode="bind" host="127.0.0.1" service="2445"/>
      <protocol type="raw"/>
    </serial>

and the other with

    <serial type="tcp">
      <source mode="connect" host="127.0.0.1" service="2445"/>
      <protocol type="raw"/>
    </serial>
