Try
copying ure cd contents like this, it worked for me
mount /mnt/cdrom
mkdir /tmp/cd_contents
cd /mnt/cdrom
tar -cf - . | ( cd /tmp/cd_contents ; tar -xvpf - )
My copy is perfect since I just mount a
directory to the CD iso image. ( Also note that the installation from the copy of
files was successful (FTP method) while the direct installation from the
CDROM yield the error: "RHL CD was not found" )
However, you raises a point, since the technique I used to create the
CDROM didn't create the .discinfo file at all. Perhaps it was ok in
RHL 8.0 ? Anyhow, thanks. I'll dive into it.

How did you copy the files from the CDROM? You
may have missed the
hidden .discinfo
files.
