thanks, "ks apic" worked and I was able to use a stock 7.2 bootnet.img
too...

Use `ks apic` (plus any other options that you use) at the boot prompt. 
  This first appeared in RH 7.1

If you are going to be using X, grab the XFree86-SVGA server from 7.1, 
or upgrade to XF4 from 7.3 (it may also work with the updated XF 
packages--I haven't tried them yet).
