Modem configuration

Hello ppl,

I am a new user to Linux and am using Red Hat Linux
7.1. I am trying to configure my modem on it. I have a
GVC 33.6 external modem which has a Rockwell chipset.

I tried to configure using the RH Dialer, and Linux
detected my modem as /dev/ttyS0. When I tried to debug
it, a series of commands followed and then the system
tried to dial .... a short dial tone is audible and
then the windows says that the dial tone is not found
and it redials...

I had the same problem on Windows 2000 Adv Server, but
I addedd init strings in the Extra Settings of the
modem settings. The extra settings were : atx S11-250.
The problem was solved in Win2K after using these
settings ...

I was wondering if the same settings would solve the
problem in Linux... but I do not know where to add
these strings or where to get a dialog box from where
I can set these init strings for the modem ...

Any other suggestions are welcomed and I would be
thankful for them...

Ritin
