Why does the most recent systemd update pull in qemu?
That seems excessive.
Currently running Fedora 41 with systemd version 256.8-1,
looks like the update moves me to systemd version
256.9-2.

The Recommends was changed from qemu-kvm to qemu-kvm-core
yesterday, for a future build. Per that bug:
As as a workaround, if you don't need systemd-nspawn or
systemd-vmspawn, it should be fine to uninstall
systemd-container.
So it was an intended change, but had a larger impact than
expected.
Yep - I have systemd-container installed, not sure if removing it is OK or not - removing
it is removing "unused dependencies" including dnf-utils and more (I know I can change disable that
TBD as to which of the unused dependencies I might want to remove).
If you aren't using any containers, then it should be fine to remove.
If it's only a recommends, then you could probably just uninstall qemu
anyway.
Why is it a problem to have qemu installed?
My two systems running F41 include systemd 256.9-2 and do
not include qemu.
Perhaps you have the dnf `install_weak_deps` option set to false?
I don't have that set.
That was a reply to the person that didn't get qemu. You don't have
that set, so dnf installs weak deps which includes the recommends of qemu.
