I have an older Fedora 40 machine that I tried to install Fedora 41
on, and got a surprise.
For a first attempt, I tried the as-documented dnf system-upgrade
steps on a fully working and stock Fedora 40. Upon reboot to
actually do the install steps, a black screen is presented and
everything had to stop.
This comment will probably annoy some people, but you really should
bring this up on the test list.
What do you mean by "everything had to stop"? Did you try pressing ESC?
The upgrade boot is using the same software that you normally boot with.
What does a normal boot look like?
Try doing the system upgrade but remove "quiet rhgb" from the end of the
kernel command line in grub after the "reboot" command, so you can see
what's happening. This will probably remove those options
"permanently", but you can add them back later if you want.
For a second attempt, I elected to blow the Fedora-40 system away,
and reinstall from iso. The blackscreen was presented again, but
this time there was also a mouse pointer visible. Once again, there
is no means of upgrading available.
Could you move the pointer?
This particular 2008 Dell machine has a vesa video card, and I am
assuming that there is a new problem with the drivers in Fedora 41.
Is this a known problem, and is there going to be a fix before
release? Or is Fedora now dropping support for older machines?
Can you install inxi and post the output of `inxi -Fzxx` so we know
your hardware details?

You actually have an NVidia card using the nouveau driver.
