Try running `dnf distro-sync` first. If it says it will install F39
packages, then don't continue.
Tried it as root and re-directed to a text file. It wants to upgrade
packages to f-39, so I responded 'N' to its prompt.
I have "ext2explore" in windows-7, so I can access (read only!) that
text file produced by "dnf distro-sync". Here are the first several
lines:
What does "rpm -qa | grep release" show you?
If it gives you both 39 and 40 release packages, then remove the 39
ones and try the distro-sync again.
You could also try adding `--release=40` to the distro-sync command.
Before I proceed, after "dnf upgrade" (but before "dnf system-
upgrade..." to f-40), I had the correct rpm fusion nvidia driver. After
the "dnf system-upgrade" to f40, I had the nouveau graphics driver
(bad!). Is the distro-sync to f-40 going to leave me stuck with the
nouveau graphics driver?
You won't be stuck, but you might need to use it briefly until you can
get the other one configured.
