Hi,

I've wondered lately what it means to "run" an Android App on
a Linux platform:

1) If you have some kitchen appliance that has an associated App,
can you communicate with the appliance with the App using
your Linux Wifi?

In my particular case, the app is not for a kitchen appliance, but for EERO, as I mentioned in the OP.

EERO unfortunately does not provide any httpd I/F and the only way how to communicate with it including all the setup and management is via an Android or iOS app.

2) Can the appliance communicate with the appliance maker's
cloud system via the App running on Linux and Wifi?

There is no such Linux app for EERO. Some Android or iOS virtualization would be necessary.

3) Can you use a Bash script to interact with the App
or are all such "ways of running an App" limited to mouse
and keyboard interactions and GUI responses?

The EERO app does not provide any APIs for third party communication.

Just to provide the context: I am controlling my rather extensive Wi-Fi mesh system from iPad using the aforementioned EERO app. Unfortunately my iPad developed a weird problem that somehow restricts the app usefulness. Certain functions of the app stopped working completely and the only way out is a reboot of the iPad. However, shortly after the reboot, all problems come back and the app becomes unusable again. After long conversation with EERO support we determined that the problem lies with the iPad. Any other iOS or Android device on my network can run the EERO app normally. Even the iPad in question can run the app if connected via cell network and not Wi-Fi.

I configured an old Android tablet to run the app but I would rather run it from my main Linux machine. That's all.

Cheers
Frank
