I've never had it fail, either. But *in my case* it makes more sense for me to use an NFS mounted /home and now I just don't worry about it at all. I use a kickstart which rebuilds my desktop in about as much time as it takes me to pour a coffee and put my cream and sugar into it.
Not saying it's the right thing for anyone else. I am saying it's the right thing for me, in my little home lab.
