I'm also considering that, especially as I've tried to download Xubuntu, but the download always fails.
Regarding the booting options for a flash drive: I usually do that by holding down an F*-key right after powering on the computer (I have to be quick to do that) to access the UEFI/BIOS boot menu. The F*-key for your machine depends on the model of your hardware. Mine (Dell) opens the boot menu with F12. An internet search should say something about the correct key for your model.
On my laptop, I can only get into the CMOS setup by waiting until the logo appears, then pressing F12, and only if the flash drive isn't inserted. As I've already mentioned, I sent a request for information to the OEM over the weekend, but haven't received an answer yet. Will try again later today.
