You have control over all updates, so there shouldn't be any risk of
that. Comment out the exclusion, run the dnf check command, then
uncomment it. Sometimes I'll ^Z out of vim, run the command, then go
back and press "u".
Good advice. If there is anyway to do it with
the exclusion in place, I'd rather do it that way.
