The HDMI port drives a second monitor fine but the USB-C port will not. I can plug an external drive into the USB-C port and it mounts it fine, however I would like to drive an additional monitor with it.
Generally, you'll see that described in technical specifications as "DisplayPort over USB-C" or "USB-C with DisplayPort". ASUS's site describes that port as "Type-C USB 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen 1)". I'm not saying it doesn't support DisplayPort, but is there a reason that you think it does?
As far as I can tell, the kernel logs you see just indicate that it's detecting a USB hub in the monitor, not that the display itself is supported.
