What are you using bind (named) to do? The GeoIP database is used to resolve
(to the best of publically-available data) IP addresses to geographical
location. Bind can use that information to, for example, give
country-specific answers (so you could direct customers to a local server).

As might be implied, the "-City" database resolves to that level. If that's
not necessary, you can use the much smaller "-Country" one. Or, if you don't
use either... well, you don't need either.


I see nothing about it in named.conf.   I wasn't even
aware that they were linked.

And I certainly see none of the stuff in there:
