It has done for a while now, I suppose it started supported KMS or
simiar. However you seem to get the "low" resolution when there's an
NVIDIA driver update or no current driver 'compiled' for the running
kernel. I'm guessing this is because the new version is built on the fly
at boot up and is unavailable initially until reboot.
