I use the 960 and 970 all the time in customer machines I build.
I have no issues in either the Fedora or Windows 10 world.
They are very reliable and faster than ...
Make sure you size the unit such that at least half of the drive will
be empty. This greatly assists with the wear leveling mechanism
on the drive itself.
I think that makes since when it's for a customer and you want to ensure
they don't have any problems because that costs you, but SSD's are still
too expensive to throw away 50% of the capacity for me.
I did a little research last time (I believe it was you) it was
mentioned and while there are a lot of opinions the google consensus I
found was that they already reserve some space from the factory but that
reserving an additional 15% was sufficient to allow the wear leveling
algorithms to work efficiently.
Thanks,
Richard
Hi Richard,
Since I am the one who has to go out and wipe the egg off my face
when these things fail, I have learned the hard way. I have
taken it in the pocket book too many times.
If it is the economics you are looking at, the expense you will
bring upon yourself by undercutting the size recommendation
is astronomically out of proportion to spending the money up front.
The free space I quoted you comes directly from Samsung's Advanced
Memory Support (I get to talk to them). And my experience confirms
their recommendation.
Spend the money up front. You won't regret it.
