I also use T-Bird for my mail client where most of the links are that I want to open. So, the following works for me.... xdg-settings set default-web-browser google-chrome.desktop xdg-settings set default-url-scheme-handler http google-chrome.desktop xdg-settings set default-url-scheme-handler https google-chrome.desktop You would replace the google-chrome.desktop with the appropriate desktop file for your preferred browser. The desktop file would be located in... /usr/share/applications/ -- Conjecture is just a conclusion based on incomplete information. It isn't a fact.
