You'll probably be disappointed to hear that I've several audio output devices (HDMI, Intel 3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio, BT-headset) that I switch around using for various reasons and I've not lost a configuration across reboots (mostly for kernel updates). -- Conjecture is just a conclusion based on incomplete information.
