For what it's worth, I have a collection of those empty directories on
my older installation (FC26), and two sets because I changed a
motherboard.  The bizarre conglomeration of directories made no sense,
to me, until your comment, above.

But it strikes me, though, are these empty directories something that
ought to get erased once the kernel has been installed?  Is there any
point to them being there.
