4k playback with VLC and Kodi

hi everyone

I wonder if anybody has seen hardware fully decoding 4k 264hon Fedora.

I have a Panasonic camera which produces 4k 264h MP4 and I see different results with various player. VLC - plays no video, shows no errors, just plays but with black/blank screen. Also Gnome's Videos does the same. Kodi - plays video content okey butit decodes with software, does not seem to use hardware.

Would you know it there is a problem with HW assisted 4k decoding? Is it gstremer? Also, why Kodi would not use HW for 4k when it does it with 1080p?

I'm obviously also anxious of whether it's just one type of HW platform or all. I'm on AMD APU/GPU.

many thanks, L.
