I have solved the current problem by changing the target idea of how to access the information, but I would still like to be able to get the scanner to work. I have read through the "--help" and the man pages on sane, but couldn't get any progress. It would seem really simple to send a command to a scanner and retrieve at least a bitmap of a document. I guess it is more difficult than that. Maybe I'll take a cut at it once I get a windows system in house and can monitor the exchange.
