If your ISP, or router, doesn't support IPv6, then having your system try to use it can result in lengthy delays, as it first tries IPv6 then falls back to IPv4. You can, also, tell individual applications to not use IPv6, or to use it a second choice after IPv4. Firefox has an option for that.
