They also show firefox.desktop, however if I try to change it:

$ xdg-settings set default-url-scheme-handler http opera.desktop
$ xdg-settings get default-url-scheme-handler http
firefox.desktop

IOW I can't change it. (And yes, the opera.desktop file exists.)
