I think there are multiple ways this shows up and it isn't necessary that a shutdown hangs. FWIW, in my case the shutdown is delayed until those messages pop up and then the shutdown happens quite quickly. It may, as noted in the bugzilla, have to do with the installation of the VirtualBox bits in my case.
