I have been using unix since the first att release to the universities in the 70's, and linux since 1988/1989. Since the appearance of optical drives and media, I had always been able to dd an iso file directly to the optical drive in the manner I described.
I've been using Unix and Linux for about that same time**, and I have _never_ been able to use "dd" to write to CD or DVD recordable media except for the (now fairly obsolete) DVD_RAM disks, which behave basically like a very slow hard drive. Maybe you can/could with DVD+R disks. I have no experience with those. ** Since the days when using Unix meant being on a dialup line to Murray Hill, NJ, and if you called in about an issue with the C compiler there was a good chance you'd find yourself talking to Dennis Richie. -- Bob Nichols "NOSPAM" is really part of my email address.
