Again, going by the device name, I would have said wlp3s0 would have
been a wireless interface, but I've not come across gigabit wireless.
This one has IPv4 and IPv6 addresses assigned.

Where do you get the gigabit from? The 1000 is the value for txqueuelen, which is Transmit Queue Length. Nothing to do with speed.
