That's why I suggested it might be the cable. I had a similar
experience.
I am pretty sure, that the phone worked with the normal USB cable
before.

This issue is resolved with the latest updates to the kernel and hwdata.
I suspect that this was solved with additions to usb.ids - something I
did not think of originally. In any event it works now.
