Hi, Thanks for that - I know of yumex (and agree - its very nice). yum check-update however demonstrates why I get the feeling there is a dbus related problem..... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- % yumex 20:09:51 : INFO - Using config file : /home/andyp/.config/yumex/yumex.conf 20:09:51 : INFO - Using config file : /home/andyp/.config/yumex/yumex.conf (yumex:5537): IBUS-WARNING **: Unable to connect to ibus: Could not connect: Connection refused 20:09:51 : DEBUG - network interface enp5s5 (r8169) is connected 20:09:51 : DEBUG - network interface virbr0 (bridge) is connected 20:09:51 : DEBUG - network interface virbr0-nic () is connected 20:09:51 : INFO - Connected to an network 20:09:51 : DEBUG - network interface enp5s5 (r8169) is connected 20:09:51 : DEBUG - network interface virbr0 (bridge) is connected 20:09:51 : DEBUG - network interface virbr0-nic () is connected 20:09:51 : INFO - Starting yum child process 20:10:01 : INFO - YUM: Yum Version : 3.4.3 20:10:01 : INFO - YUM: Loaded plugins: langpacks 20:10:01 : INFO - YUM: No plugin match for: refresh-packagekit 20:10:01 : INFO - Getting available updates 20:10:04 : INFO - 0 packages returned 20:10:04 : INFO - Getting available obsoletes 20:10:04 : INFO - 0 packages returned 20:10:04 : INFO - Adding Packages to view 20:10:04 : INFO - Added 0 Packages to view 20:10:07 : INFO - Closing rpm db and releasing yum lock 20:10:07 : INFO - yum backend process is ended 20:10:07 : INFO - exitcode from backend : 0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note the IBUS-WARNING? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OTOH using apper works and shows "Your system is up to date" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- and ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- % sudo yum update Loaded plugins: langpacks No packages marked for update ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So thats ok too! Any other ideas? I like packagekit because it informs me (or it did under FC20!) with a pop-up that updates are available and asks if I want to download them. It just ran in the background like a nice piece of magic and so I never needed to worry much about exactly how it worked. Any thoughts - clues?
