Sorry for reviving a thread from the past, but I have a very similar problem: my Current_Pending_Sector value is 2, and I get notifications about it. I'm wondering whether I should replace the drive. What is strange, though, is that when I run a long self-test (smartctl -t long /dev/sdc), it reports „Completed without error”. Thus, I can't even find the addresses of the faulty sectors – and actually, I question the validity of my S.M.A.R.T. values. Either the „Current_Pending_Sector” is incorrect (in reality, I have none), or the self-test was not efficient enough to find the bad sector.
In this case, your guess is as good as mine. You could try running "dd if=/dev/sdc of=/dev/null bs=256k" and see if you get any read errors. Short of saving the data elsewhere and overwriting the entire drive with zeros, I don't have anything to suggest. -- Bob Nichols "NOSPAM" is really part of my email address.
