there may be a hidden yum group called "GNOME".

Try running 'yum grouplist hidden', and see what groups return? GNOME might be listed there.

Thank you. I've done this, and have found various hidden groups, and have tried doing yum groupinstall <groupname>

Either a few packages get added, or mostly, the response is that all group packages have been installed.

I've begun to look through /var/log/messages for the clue as to why none of the GNOME desktops are properly loading/functioning. The list is very long.

It begins in the following way:
