I've been using the brother driver installer linux-printer-installer-2.0.0-1

If there IS a Brother driver for that printer, it should find it for
you. I can't give you an exact URL for that program, but you should be
able to find it on their web site with a little digging.

Ok, I found two rpm's there that appeared as though they might be
applicable. I still have no HL-L2340DW driver but it has added something
to the CUPS printer list which needs further explanation?

I deleted the printer in question and re-installed it using the driver
from the printer it should replace as:
socket://192.168.1.6:9100
Brother HL-2170W Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e (recommended)
It continues to work as before. It seems to print well enough, not sure
it will print both sides with this driver but that's a minor point. I
would still prefer whatever driver they suggest and there is none.
