Well, the chief purpose of this laptop is to run proprietary software connected with a GPS -- preferably on a virtual XP. (Wine will usually install and launch, but not connect to a GPS.) Looks like I'd better upgrade <sigh>. Meanwhile, unless memtest offers surprises, I may try installing CentOS 6.4, and look for some other use, or give the machine away.
