I view Thunderbird meswsages on a black background with white text,
works well for my vision problems, however T-bird displays quoted text,

would be happy if everything was displayed in bold white text, the
colors are without benefit "to me anyway."

open this mozilla site, page;

   http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries

[all following is using firefox browser]

make note of 1st paragraph then press <ctrl+f>, enter;

    Find:  _color

to start from "Browser", pressing <F3> to advance to each of settings;

   browser.active_color
   browser.anchor_color
   browser.display.background_color
   browser.visited_color

and making note of settings;

after above, enter;

    Find:  browser.underline_anchors

with understanding of each "Preference Name", in thunderbird, from
menu bar;

Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Config Editor > make promise

in about:config window;

    Find:  _color

make appropriate changes, then:

    Find:  browser.underline_anchors

note:  white = #FFFFFF, black = #000000

make appropriate changes. close about:config and preferences windows.
done.

check to see if i know "wth" i am talking about.

any questions, problems, i missed something, ask.

hth.

Not a bit! What to do with "browser.underline_anchors ?"

"_color" copy/pasted into the about:config bar produces a blank.

I have Firefox 23.0.1 and Thunderbird 17.0.8. Perhaps they are different
than what you have?

my apologies. "mabt". i was thinking of;

   Help > Troubleshooting Information

where a tab opens with information about settings for thunderbird and what
has changed and <ctrl+f> brings up a "Find:" bar. no editing.

for "about:config", in above, replace "Find:" with "Search:".

if you still do not see any "Preference Name" with "_color", then you have
a very big problem.

not counting printer names, i have 21 names with "_color";

  #  relate to
  5   browser.
  6   editor.
  1   mail.
  2   msgcompose.
  1   ui.

I don't think I have the problem, it has to be F-19/XFCE/Thunderbird/Firefox.

The above stuff works in Seamonkey but not with Thunderbird. But doing as you suggested in about:config from Seamonkey I see what you mean and was able to change _color to #FFFFFF. I have no explanation for that, I haven't done anything special to Thunderbird and it works normally otherwise.
