We did have a few problems with that in some > kernels. Using setserial to force the type to 16550A may help I tried setting the UART but it didn't make any difference. I had one modem on ttyS0 as a base line test which kept working whatever I did, and had an identical modem swapping between ttyS1/ttyS2 (I didn't know which was which). The problem turned out to be the cable to the second modem. I've sorted that and now all three ports working. Thanks for you help.
