Windows and Linux allocate RAM differently, so it's very possible for one OS to hit a problem and the other not. Which memory test util did you run? 2. Problems with the video drivers. Since you did run the memory test, this is the most probable. What graphics card does your system have? 3. BIOS bugs which make the cooling not work properly in Linux.
