If your home folder is allocated in its own partition, then no problem. 
Choose "Custom allocation" on the install, label the partition, but 
don't format it.  Otherwise, on your new install, put it in its won 
partition, and you won't be troubled again. In this case, keep in mind 
that re-sizing a partition is probably not practical.

Keep in mind that you should backup your home folder even if you don't 
intend to restore it. Otherwise, there lies madness.
