Did you try the "alternate' install disk? (I think that is the name or

Hey, thanks for the advice. I had never heard of that until now. I do
see than on the Fedora site:
http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-options#formats I think I might
try that. Why not? Mike

Whenever you are ready to try, feel free to email me if you have any trouble. I really don't think that, once you get it the way you want it that you'll find it 'less' than any version of Windows. Granted, it's not always as simple as some people want, but, for the most part, it is comparable to what most people need and use anyway.

Personally, unless there is a completely valid reason why you need to browse file shares on the Windows boxes, I don't see why that's such a showstopper. I think once you get more comfortable with Linux (and the CLI) you'll find that point and click isn't always the fastest way. In fact, I don't know of any linux user (even my mom) who doesn't keep a shell open for quick commands for various things.

I'll be glad to help with whatever distro of Linux that you choose. I've used them all. Personally, I think Ubuntu and Fedora are the two to start with, but, it's still your choice. And that is what makes linux so much more than Windows. There is more than one way to skin any particular cat.
