Again, this isn't about Linux not working, just not configured the way you want it. But, that's part of the fun. It gives you the option to set it up however you want, unlike some that shove your round nail into the same square hole everyone else has.
I certainly can say, that, if my own mother can use linux for the last 4 years without trouble, then you most certainly can. And FTR, I did nothing but install the system.
