Just to be clear, this was the proxy setting in kde system settings. I
DO use squid behind firefox as a content filter. Apparently, preupgrade
(which needs a new name) made this change. I'm sure hoping that's the
case - in contrast to having had a VERY scary senior moment. That's my
hypothesis and I'm sticking to it ;-)
