Implying, of course, that SOME non-gui bits are here now. Which bits and how can I find them/evaluate them etc? As I mentioned, I looked at nmcli and also after configuring manually the scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg*, NetworkManager thinks I'm offline (and tells thunderbird and firefox not to let me access my network ;-).

This could be simply a configuration problem on my side, but I simply cannot tell what, if anything, is supposed to be working differently from all previous versions, where the only solution was to stop networkmanager completely and use the venerable "system network start; chkconfig network on".
