It's not so much a matter of time, as not wanting to hose things up for
my wife. We geeks are used to having updates occasionally break things;
it is the price we pay for running bleeding edge software. But my wife
doesn't always see it that way, so I try not to update her machine
unless there is a specific reason to do so.

Example: a recent kernel update caused wireless on my laptop to stop
working reliably. There were bugzillas about the issue and I think it
was even discussed on this list. I have one Vaio laptop that is still
booting a 3.1 kernel because I'm not sure exactly where the bug was
introduced or when and if it's been fixed. I'll get around to trying the
latest kernel sooner or later, it's just not high on my priority list.

Apologies if I wasn't clear. It works fine with XFCE, the problem only
occurs with Gnome3. I haven't made a huge effort to find out exactly
what's happening, because we have found an acceptable workaround.
