Definitely the Kindle. As was said before, you can mount it as a
standard USB drive and copy files onto and off of it. In addition, the
PDF support is better (IMO) than other devices. Especially given that
you can alter the orientation of the display so that each page of a tech
manual PDF is split in half and fully readable in landscape mode.

And the battery life is awesome. It's advertised as 30 days, but I've
taken it to over 40 days [1] several times now.
