In case you missed it, using preupgrade is a hit or miss proposition.
The simplest recovery method is to abandon all the files that were
downloaded and install from a CD.

I used to upgrade that way.   I did miss the memo.

Which CD does one use these days ?  F15 Live runs fine on the machine in question.  How exactly does one initiate the upgrade ?
