Sometimes it is "OK" to change the subject and keep it part of the same thread. For example, when the discussion goes off in a meaningful, yet slightly different direction. The subject may be "Virus in Linux" and it makes perfect sense to keep the thread but change the subject to "Malware in Linux [was "Virus in Linux"]". I suspect gmail is unable to maintain the linkage. In any event, even if you don't understand the concept...one should follow the list guidelines and I've previously mentioned...
