system->preferences-> sound doenst work for you?
What is probably needed is the other two mixers. Install gst-mixer, then play
with that, alsamixer with the "-c0" option, the pulseaudio mixer, etc. There is
likely to be at least one setup among the several thousand possible which will
do something useful with sound.
